The Maldives Monetary Authority is the central bank of the Maldives, established on July 1, 1981 and headquartered in the capital, Male. It issues and regulates the Maldivian rufiyaa, licenses and supervises financial-sector institutions, implements monetary policy, and advises the government on economic and financial matters, holding foreign reserves reported at 509 million dollars as of August 2024 and belonging to the Asian Clearing Union and the Alliance for Financial Inclusion.
