National Bank of Cambodia

The National Bank of Cambodia is Cambodia's central bank, established on December 23, 1954 following the country's independence from France and headquartered in the Daun Penh district of the capital, Phnom Penh. It manages monetary and exchange policy, regulates banks and other financial institutions, and controls the national currency, the Cambodian riel, operating alongside 21 provincial branches and holding foreign currency reserves of roughly 6.76 billion dollars. In 2016 it launched Bakong, one of the first central-bank-issued digital payment systems in Southeast Asia, which processed more than 608 million transactions in 2024.
