The National Bank of Tajikistan was established June 28, 1991 by resolution of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Tajikistan and is headquartered in Dushanbe. It is the country's primary issuing and reserve bank, responsible for maintaining price stability, implementing monetary policy, supervising the banking system, and issuing the Tajikistani somoni, introduced in 2000 to replace the Tajikistani ruble.
