Wholly state-owned and overseen by an executive board alongside its governor and deputy governor, it acts as lender of last resort, controls the money supply, manages the country's reserves, and supervises commercial banks operating in Laos, issuing the Lao kip; it holds foreign reserves of approximately 1.0 billion dollars.
