The Central Bank of Oman was established in December 1974 and began operations April 1, 1975, headquartered in Ruwi, Muscat. It is responsible for maintaining the stability of the Omani rial and ensuring monetary and financial stability, and under Royal Decrees issued in January 2025 it gained legal personality and administrative independence with a new Banking Law replacing its former Executive President position with a Governor.
