Nepal Rastra Bank is the central bank of Nepal, established April 26, 1956 and headquartered in Kathmandu. It formulates monetary and foreign exchange policy, issues the Nepalese rupee, and regulates the country's banks and financial institutions, having been created in part to reduce Nepal's dependence on India for managing foreign currency reserves. The bank released its first banknotes on February 19, 1960.
