The National Bank of North Macedonia is the country's central bank, headquartered in Skopje. Originally established in 1971 as part of Yugoslavia's banking system, it became a fully independent central bank in 1992 after the breakup of Yugoslavia. Wholly state-owned and governed by a National Bank Council, it issues the Macedonian denar and holds foreign reserves of about 2.23 billion dollars.
