The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the country's central banking authority, headquartered in Sarajevo and established under a law adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 20, 1997, beginning operations that August 11 under the Dayton Agreement; it consolidated the former National Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the National Bank of Republika Srpska. Operating a currency board arrangement, it issues the convertible mark and defines monetary policy, holding reserves of about 17.4 billion dollars, with a head office in Sarajevo and branches in Banja Luka, Mostar, Brcko and Pale.
