The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo is Kosovo's monetary authority, headquartered in Pristina and established in June 2008 under Law No. 03/L-074 following Kosovo's declaration of independence, succeeding the Central Banking Authority of Kosovo (2006-2008) and the Banking and Payments Authority of Kosovo (1999-2006). It operates independently and reports to the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo; because Kosovo unilaterally adopted the euro in 2002 without joining the eurozone, the bank manages euro reserves, reported at about 1.18 billion euros, rather than issuing its own currency, and its main objective is to foster and maintain a stable and efficient financial and payment system.
