The Central Bank of Samoa is Samoa's central bank, established on February 25, 1984 as successor to a Monetary Board that had operated since 1975, and headquartered in the capital, Apia. Wholly state-owned, it issues the Samoan tala, regulates and manages the exchange rate against foreign currencies, and registers and supervises the country's commercial banks under the Central Bank of Samoa Act 1984, the Financial Institutions Act 1996, and the Money Laundering Prevention Act 2000.
