The Bank of Papua New Guinea was established in 1973 by the Central Banking Act 1973 and is headquartered in Port Moresby. It is the only institution permitted to issue the Papua New Guinean kina, a role it has held since early 1975, and its mandate covers monetary policy, financial system stability, payment system management and banking services for the government.
