The Central Bank of Belize is Belize's monetary authority, established on January 1, 1982 under the Central Bank of Belize Act as successor to the Board of Commissioners of Currency (1894-1976) and the Belize Monetary Authority (1976-1981); it is headquartered in Belize City. Wholly state-owned, it manages the country's money supply and financial system and issues the Belize dollar, holding foreign reserves of approximately 400 million dollars.
