The Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago was established December 12, 1964, headquartered at the Eric Williams Plaza in Port of Spain, and was only the second central bank established in the English-speaking Caribbean after Jamaica's in 1960. Its main responsibilities are to issue and redeem currency, maintain monetary and financial stability, and act as banker to the government, and it is the only institution authorized to issue Trinidad and Tobago's currency notes and coins.
