Special and Historical Monetary Authorities

This group collects the Central Banks and Monetary Authorities subcategory's members that are proposed but never-realized monetary unions, defunct historical currency unions, or coordinating forums rather than an active single-country or multi-country issuing authority: the African Monetary Union and the Asian Monetary Unit, both proposed but not yet operating; the 19th and 20th century Latin Monetary Union, Scandinavian Monetary Union and European Monetary Agreement, each long since dissolved; the Group of Twelve, a historical forum of central bank governors rather than an issuing authority in its own right; and SUCRE, a regional settlement mechanism with only limited and largely dormant use. It is kept apart from Multinational and Currency Union Monetary Authorities, whose members are active operating currency unions or reserve arrangements today.
