Demotech

Demotech, Inc. is an American insurance rating agency that focuses on independent, regional and specialty property and casualty insurers overlooked by the larger rating agencies. It was founded in 1985 by Joseph L. Petrelli and Sharon Romano Petrelli and is based in Dublin, Ohio. Demotech evaluates insurers' financial strength and claims-paying ability by analyzing statutory financial statements, actuarial opinions, reinsurance arrangements and management practices, issuing Financial Stability Ratings on an eight-level scale. It is one of ten nationally recognized statistical rating organizations designated by the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, and it became especially prominent for rating Florida property insurers following Hurricane Andrew in 1992.
