RAM Rating Services Berhad, known as RAM Ratings, traces its origin to RAM Holdings, established in November 1990 by Malaysia's central bank as part of the institutional infrastructure meant to catalyze the country's domestic bond market, with initial capital of 10 million ringgit subscribed by 51 shareholding banks and finance companies alongside the Asian Development Bank and the UK rating agency IBCA. Its rating operations were spun into the dedicated subsidiary RAM Rating Services Berhad in 2007, and the agency has since rated more than 450 billion US dollars of bonds issued by over 750 entities, becoming the leading credit rating agency in Malaysia and Southeast Asia with particular expertise in rating Islamic sukuk securities.
