John Nash

C - Mathematical and Quantitative Methods

John Forbes Nash Jr. (1928-2015) was an American mathematician who shared the 1994 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences with John Harsanyi and Reinhard Selten for pioneering the analysis of equilibria in the theory of non-cooperative games. His 1950s work on strategic interaction, later named the Nash equilibrium in his honor, is the most commonly used solution concept for predicting outcomes when no player can gain by unilaterally changing strategy, and it underlies later work across microeconomics, industrial organization and international economics.
