The Andean Community, known in Spanish as Comunidad Andina, is an international organization of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru working toward the economic, political and social integration of its member states. It began in 1969 as the Andean Pact when the Cartagena Agreement was signed, and adopted its current name and structure in 1996. Headquartered in Lima, Peru, it functions as a free trade area pursuing a customs union and is regarded as the most institutionally developed subregional trade bloc in Latin America and the Caribbean.
