Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF)

Multilateral Development Banks and Institutions

The Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, known as CAF, grew out of the 1966 Bogota Declaration signed by Colombia, Chile, Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru to pursue Andean economic integration, and was formally established February 7, 1968 as the Andean Development Corporation, beginning operations June 8, 1970. Headquartered in Caracas, Venezuela, it expanded beyond its Andean founders in the early 1990s to take in other Latin American and Caribbean nations as well as Spain and Portugal, and today counts 23 member countries, financing public and private sector projects and providing technical cooperation to promote sustainable development and regional integration. Sergio Diaz-Granados Guida serves as president.
