The Hungarian Development Bank (Magyar Fejlesztesi Bank, or MFB) is a specialized credit institution fully owned by the Hungarian government, founded in 1991 as the Hungarian Investment and Development Company before becoming an investment bank by 1993 and adopting its current legal structure under Act XX of 2001. It provides corporate development loans on favorable terms, facilitates access to European Union financial instruments, raises funds on international capital markets, and offers retail financial products mainly for energy related purposes. Its 2023 balance sheet exceeded 3.6 trillion forint in total assets, making it one of the ten largest banks in Hungary.
