The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) is the apex regulatory body for licensing and regulating micro, small, and medium enterprise finance companies in India, established on April 2, 1990 by an Act of Parliament. It operated as a subsidiary of IDBI Bank until gaining independence on March 27, 2000, and is now headquartered in Lucknow under the Ministry of Finance. SIDBI provides refinance facilities to banks and financial institutions, term lending, and working capital finance for the micro, small, and medium enterprise sector, and is one of five All India Financial Institutions supervised by the Reserve Bank of India, alongside Exim Bank, NABARD, NaBFID, and the National Housing Bank.
