Alaska Permanent Fund

National Treasuries and Fiscal Authorities

The Alaska Permanent Fund is a constitutionally established sovereign wealth fund created by the State of Alaska in 1976 to save a share of the state's oil and mineral revenue for current and future generations of Alaskans. From its creation until 1980 the fund's assets were managed directly by the Department of Revenue's Treasury Division, after which the Alaska State Legislature created a dedicated management corporation to oversee its investments; the fund itself is widely known for its annual Permanent Fund Dividend, a direct payment to eligible Alaska residents drawn from the fund's investment earnings.
