The Brunei Investment Agency (BIA) is the sovereign wealth fund of Brunei, established July 1, 1983 to manage the country's external reserves and diversify its economy away from dependence on hydrocarbons. It reports directly to Brunei's Ministry of Finance and Economy, is headquartered in the Ministry of Finance and Economy Building on Commonwealth Drive in Bandar Seri Begawan, and manages the General Reserve Fund with the stated aim of providing income for future generations once Brunei's oil and gas reserves are depleted and of protecting the national budget from swings in global energy prices. It is widely described as one of the most secretive sovereign wealth funds in the world, with its assets under management, estimated at around 78 billion US dollars for 2025-26, not officially disclosed.
