Future Fund

The Future Fund is Australia's sovereign wealth fund, established in 2006 under the Future Fund Act 2006, which received Royal Assent on March 23, 2006, with initial funding of 18 billion Australian dollars deposited on May 5, 2006. It was created to strengthen the Australian government's long-term financial position by making provision for the unfunded superannuation liabilities of public servants that could otherwise strain government finances as the population ages. Headquartered in Melbourne, Victoria, it is independently managed and also oversees six related funds, including the Medical Research Future Fund, the DisabilityCare Australia Fund and the Housing Australia Future Fund; as of December 31, 2024 its total assets held were 224.9 billion Australian dollars.
