Pre-Classical Economic Thought

Schools of economic reasoning that came before the classical school established economics as a systematic discipline in the late eighteenth century. Belongs here: the scholastic price and just-wage doctrines of the School of Salamanca, the state-centered trade doctrines of mercantilism, and the Physiocrats' claim that land and agriculture are the sole source of a nation's net product. Does not belong here: any school that treats markets, labor and capital as the primary object of analysis the way the classical school and its successors do; those group under Classical Economics or later.
