The Institute of International Finance is the association or trade group for the global financial services industry, established in 1983 by 38 banks from leading industrialized countries during the international debt crisis of the early 1980s. It has since grown to represent more than 400 member firms across more than 60 countries, including commercial and investment banks, asset managers, insurance companies, professional services firms, exchanges, sovereign wealth funds, hedge funds, and central and development banks. Its work centers on advocacy, research and convening on sustainable finance, digital finance, risk and regulation, and debt issues, with the stated aim of supporting prudent risk management and sound practice while promoting global financial stability and sustainable growth. It is headquartered in Washington, D.C., with additional offices in Beijing, Singapore, Dubai and Brussels.
