Institute of Developing Economies

The Institute of Developing Economies (IDE) is a semi governmental research institute under the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and the largest social science research institute in Japan. It operates as part of the Japan External Trade Organization, is headquartered in the Kaihin-Makuhari area of Chiba City, and focuses primarily on development economics and area studies; it also served as the founding body for the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia, managing the budget and staffing of that organization before it gained independent legal status.
