World Institute for Development Economics Research

The United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research, known as UNU-WIDER, is part of the United Nations University and describes itself as an international academic organization set up to promote peace and progress by bringing together leading scholars to tackle pressing global problems. Founded in February 1984 and headquartered in Helsinki, Finland, it was the first research and training centre established by the UNU, created through a host country agreement under which Finland provided premises and a 25 million dollar endowment fund.
