The Bank of Mauritius is the central bank of the Republic of Mauritius, established in September 1967 and modelled on the Bank of England, which provided senior officers to assist in its founding; it is headquartered in the Bank of Mauritius Tower in Port Louis. Wholly state-owned, it issues the Mauritian rupee and directs monetary policy toward safeguarding the currency's internal and external value and strengthening economic prosperity, holding foreign reserves of about 7.91 billion dollars as of 2022.
