The Bank of the Republic of Burundi is the central bank of Burundi, established on May 19, 1964 as the Banque du Royaume du Burundi and renamed to its current name in 1966; it is headquartered in Bujumbura and wholly owned by the state. It issues the Burundian franc and is active in financial-inclusion policy, having been among the original seventeen regulatory institutions to commit to the Maya Declaration on financial inclusion at the 2011 Global Policy Forum.
