The Central Bank of Mauritania is the central bank of Mauritania, established in 1973 in the capital, Nouakchott, following President Moktar Ould Daddah's decision to withdraw Mauritania from the French-dominated Communaute Financiere Africaine monetary union. Wholly state-owned, it manages the Mauritanian ouguiya and holds foreign reserves of about 1.71 billion dollars.
