The Central Bank of Madagascar, known in Malagasy as Banky Foiben'i Madagasikara, is the country's central bank, established in 1974 and headquartered in Antananarivo. Wholly state-owned, it works with the government to maintain the general political economy and preserve national monetary reserves, issues the Malagasy ariary, Madagascar's currency since 2005, holds foreign reserves of about 750 million dollars, and belongs to the Alliance for Financial Inclusion.
