The State Bank of Vietnam is Vietnam's central bank, established on May 6, 1951 when Ho Chi Minh signed the decree creating the Vietnam National Bank, which was renamed the State Bank of Vietnam in 1960. Organized as a ministry-level government body and headquartered in a French art-deco building on Ly Thai To Street in Hanoi, it is the sole issuer of the Vietnamese dong and is responsible for formulating monetary policy, supervising financial institutions, managing the country's international reserves, and printing and issuing its banknotes.
