The National Bank of Serbia in its present form was established in 2003, succeeding the National Bank of Yugoslavia, though the institution traces its lineage back to 1884 and the founding of the Privileged National Bank of the Kingdom of Serbia, one of several Belgrade-based predecessor institutions that mirror the country's complex twentieth-century history.
