Agricultural Market Information System

The Agricultural Market Information System is an inter-agency platform established on September 16, 2011, in Rome at the request of the Group of Twenty, to improve transparency in global food markets and coordinate international policy responses during crises. It is hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization and supported by a secretariat of ten international organizations, including the International Fund for Agricultural Development, the International Food Policy Research Institute, the World Bank, the World Trade Organization, the OECD and the World Food Programme. Its 28 participating countries include all Group of Twenty members plus Spain, Bangladesh, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, the Philippines, Thailand, Ukraine and Vietnam. It focuses on four major crops, wheat, maize, rice and soybeans, collecting data, producing supply forecasts, monitoring policy developments and issuing early warnings about market disruptions.
