Group of 77

The Group of 77 (G77) at the United Nations is a coalition of developing countries formed on June 15, 1964 in Geneva, Switzerland, to promote its members' collective economic interests and build an enhanced joint negotiating capacity within the UN. Although it began with 77 founding members sharing a common South-South ideology, it has since expanded to 134 member states while retaining its original name, and it is headquartered at United Nations Headquarters. Uruguay holds the group's chairmanship for 2026, succeeding Iraq, and the group pursues its aims through collective bargaining, lobbying, and reports and studies.
