Trade-weighted US dollar index

Trade and External Balance

The trade weighted US dollar index measures the value of the United States dollar relative to the currencies of a broad group of major trading partners, created and maintained by the Federal Reserve, with the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis providing the published data. It improves on the older U.S. Dollar Index by including additional currencies and by rebalancing its currency weights annually based on trade data, even though the index own value is updated far more frequently than the weightings themselves; the calculation combines the bilateral exchange rates of the included currencies through a geometric mean, with weights summing to 1.0.
