Youth Unemployment

Youth unemployment measures the proportion of the labor force aged fifteen to twenty four who do not have a job but are seeking one. It is tracked separately from the overall unemployment rate because youth unemployment consistently runs well above the general rate in most economies; the European Commission, for example, recorded European Union youth joblessness running at roughly double the overall unemployment rate through the decade to 2024. A related measure covers young adult unemployment among those aged twenty five to thirty four, and comparisons across countries are complicated by differing national definitions of who counts as actively seeking work.
