Irving Fisher (1867-1947) was an American economist at Yale University, one of the first American neoclassical economists. He formulated the Fisher equation relating nominal and real interest rates to inflation, and restated the quantity theory of money through the equation of exchange. His later work on debt deflation, developed after his own losses in the 1929 crash, was later embraced by post-Keynesian economists including Hyman Minsky.
