Theodore Schultz (1902-1998) was an American economist at the University of Chicago. He pioneered human capital theory, arguing that investment in education and health raises worker productivity in the same way investment in physical capital does, and applied economic analysis to agricultural development in poor countries. He won the 1979 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, shared with W. Arthur Lewis.
