The Bank of Slovenia is the national central bank for Slovenia within the Eurosystem, headquartered in Ljubljana in a building erected between 1920 and 1923. It succeeded the National Bank of Slovenia, established in 1971 within Yugoslavia's federal monetary system, and took on full central-banking responsibility, including issuing the Slovenian tolar, when Slovenia declared independence in 1991; many of its functions passed to the European Central Bank after Slovenia adopted the euro in 2007. It remains a financial supervisory authority and national competent authority for banking supervision, and belongs to the European Banking Authority and the Single Resolution Board.
