Berenberg is a multinational private and merchant bank founded in Hamburg in September 1590 by the Protestant Flemish refugee brothers Hans and Paul Berenberg, and it is described as the world's oldest merchant bank still in continuous operation. Headquartered in Hamburg with major offices in London, Frankfurt and New York and roughly 1,600 employees across Europe and the Americas, the bank provides investment banking, wealth management, asset management and corporate banking services, and as of 2023 descendants of its founding families still held about thirty percent of the company.
