The Central Bank of Malaysia, known locally as Bank Negara Malaysia, was established on 26 January 1959 as the Central Bank of Malaya. Headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, it holds the exclusive authority to issue the Malaysian ringgit and serves as the government's financial adviser and banker while overseeing the country's monetary policy and regulating its financial institutions.
