The Central Bank of The Bahamas is the reserve bank of the Bahamas, established on June 1, 1974 with roots in a currency board dating to 1919, and headquartered in the capital, Nassau. Wholly state-owned, it manages monetary stability and credit and balance-of-payments conditions for the Bahamian economy, regulates banking services, acts as banker to the government, and serves as lender of last resort to commercial banks, issuing the Bahamian dollar; in October 2020 it launched a digital currency, the Sand Dollar, and it holds foreign reserves of about 810 million dollars.
