Fitch Ratings was founded on December 24, 1914 by John Knowles Fitch and is dual headquartered in Manhattan and London. It is wholly owned by the Hearst Corporation, which completed full ownership on April 12, 2018 by acquiring an additional 20 percent stake for 2.8 billion dollars. Fitch operates as an American British credit rating agency and is one of three nationally recognized statistical rating organizations designated by the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, alongside Moody's and S&P Global Ratings.
