The London Stock Exchange was formally founded in 1801, when London's brokers, who had traded informally from coffee houses since the seventeenth century, organized a subscription based exchange with a dedicated trading floor. It is one of the world's oldest continuously operating stock exchanges and today operates from Paternoster Square in the City of London under the London Stock Exchange Group, which has run it since 2007.
