The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency is an international financial institution that offers political risk insurance and credit enhancement guarantees to help investors protect foreign direct investments against political and other non-commercial risks in developing countries. It was established on April 12, 1988, as a member of the World Bank Group, and is headquartered in Washington, D.C. The agency is owned and governed by its member state governments, which provide its paid in capital and vote on its affairs, while its own executive leadership and staff carry out its daily operations, including insuring long term debt and equity investments and other long term assets and contracts. Its performance is reviewed annually by the World Bank's Independent Evaluation Group.
