British International Investment plc, formerly known as CDC Group plc, the Commonwealth Development Corporation and the Colonial Development Corporation, is the development finance institution of the UK government, founded in 1948 and headquartered in London. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office is its sole shareholder, and the institution invests equity and debt directly and through funds, holding an investment portfolio valued at around 7.1 billion US dollars at the end of 2020, with a focus since 2011 on emerging markets in South Asia and Africa.
