The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) is a Japanese public financial institution and export credit agency headquartered in Tokyo, created October 1, 1999 through the merger of the Japan Export-Import Bank and the Overseas Economic Cooperation Fund, and made an independent entity again on April 1, 2012. Wholly owned by the Japanese government, it works to promote economic cooperation between Japan and other countries by financing the overseas development of strategically important natural resources, supporting Japanese industry's international business activities, and responding to disorder in international financial markets.
