The Korea Deposit Insurance Corporation (KDIC) is South Korea's deposit insurance organization, headquartered in Jung District, Seoul, under the Financial Services Commission. Founded on June 1, 1996 and beginning insurance operations on January 1, 1997, it protects depositors and maintains financial system stability through insurance management, risk surveillance, resolution of failed institutions, fund recovery and investigations, insuring banks, insurance companies, merchant banks and mutual savings banks up to 50 million South Korean won per depositor.
